Your centre’s name
In consultation with Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners, Early Learning Victoria Nyernilang Lar has been chosen as the name of the new early learning and childcare centre at Eaglehawk North Primary School. Nyernilang Lar is a Dja Dja Wurrung word meaning learning place or centre.
Centre Director Kylie Banks-Broome and Early Learning Victoria team member Carly Donaghey share how working with the Dja Dja Wurrung on the centre’s name helped build strong relationships and make the centre a culturally safe and welcoming place for families.During the planning, design, and construction phases, the centre was known by its interim name, Eaglehawk North Primary School Early Learning and Childcare Centre.
About the centre
We have opened a new early learning and childcare centre at Eaglehawk North Primary School.
It’s run by Early Learning Victoria, a Victorian Government organisation. We offer long day care and integrated kinder for 102 children each day.
With 5 rooms built for different ages and designed for learning and play, your child will thrive here.
The centre has:
- a consulting room for child and family services, such as maternal and child health and allied health
- a multi-purpose room for community meetings and playgroups.
Does your organisation need a place to run programs? Express your interest in using a room.
Programs
We offer high-quality childcare and kinder in Eaglehawk North:
- Long day care (childcare): 102 places for children aged 0-6.
- Kinder: Integrated programs for 3- and 4-year-olds within the long day care setting.
- At least one qualified kindergarten teacher in each kinder room, providing a high-quality kinder program.
Free Kinder
Free Kinder funding helps families pay for kinder. It covers:
- 3-year-olds: 5 to 15 hours per week
- 4-year-olds: 15 hours per week (increasing to up to 30 hours when Pre-Prep begins).
Free Kinder is available at both:
- Standalone (sessional) kinder programs: You don’t pay anything. Funding goes directly to the service and your child gets a free program.
- Long day care with integrated kinder programs (e.g. Early Learning Victoria): You get an annual offset of $2,101, which is deducted from your fortnightly invoice.
How Free Kinder works at Early Learning Victoria Nyernilang Lar
With Free Kinder, families enrolled in a kinder program at our centre will get an annual fee offset of up to $2,101. If your child attends 2 or more days a week for the full year, you will get the full offset amount. If your child attends less than 15 hours a week, the offset will be adjusted based on their enrolled hours. The less time they attend, the lower the discount. We apply the offset as a discount to your fortnightly invoice.
As a long day care centre, we run an integrated kinder program every day. The program is led by a qualified early childhood teacher. Children learn through planned activities and experiences throughout the day.
Ratios
All our centres comply with national standards for educator-to-child ratios:
- For babies and children under 3 years old, this means one educator for every 4 children.
- For children aged 3 years and above, this means one educator for every 11 children.
