Your new centre’s name

In consultation with local Traditional Owners, Early Learning Victoria Bani Walup (pronounced bar-ne wal-up) has been chosen as the name of the new early learning and childcare centre at Murtoa College. Bani Walup is a Wergaia word meaning little blue tongue lizard.

During the planning, design, and construction phases, the centre was known by its interim name, Murtoa College Early Learning and Childcare Centre.

About the centre

We’re opening a new early learning and childcare centre at Murtoa College.

The centre will have an outdoor play area and it will also include a maternal and child health consulting room for local families.

Programs

  • Long day care at Murtoa: We will provide 57 places for children aged between birth and 6 years.
  • Funded kinder: The centre will provide kinder for 3- and 4-year-olds.
  • Four-Year-Old Kindergarten is transitioning to Pre-Prep: This will mean more funded hours of kinder each week (between 16 and 30 hours). Murtoa will be one of the first places in the state to introduce Pre-Prep from 2025. This new program will give 4-year-old children greater opportunities to socialise and learn through play.

Families can apply for either:

  • Integrated kinder: Kindergarten plus long day care, offering flexible drop-off and pick-up within an 11-hour day
  • Sessional kinder: Only attending kindergarten hours and days, school terms only.

Kindergarten hours are:

  • Three-Year-Old Kindergarten: 8:45 am - 3:15 pm. Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays.
  • Four-Year-Old Kindergarten: 8:45 am - 3:15 pm, Monday to Thursday.
