Our commitment to child safety

Learn how Early Learning Victoria ensures child safety with Child Safe Standards and a strong safety culture.

Early Learning Victoria (ELV) is a child-safe organisation. We are committed to providing environments where children are safe, valued and respected.

All our staff work to maintain the Child Safe Standards and strengthen a culture of child safety. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, neglect, or discrimination in any form.

We are committed to:

  • the cultural safety of Aboriginal children
  • the safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • providing a safe, inclusive environment for children with additional needs.

We have a code of conduct(opens in a new window). It outlines expectations for appropriate behaviour and responsibilities for child safety and wellbeing.

We also have strong recruitment and onboarding procedures to ensure children’s safety comes first. These procedures include pre-employment screening for staff and volunteers. They also include mandatory training and professional learning on:

  • child safety
  • preventing harm to children
  • identifying risks
  • taking steps to remove and reduce those risks.

We respect the rights of all children, including their right to feel happy, empowered and heard on matters that affect their wellbeing. We want all children to feel a sense of belonging at our centres. That’s why we strive to ensure they take part in making our centres safe places to play and learn.

We recognise our role in keeping children safe. That’s why we treat all allegations and safety concerns seriously and act on them in line with our policies:

We value regular communication with families and the local community. We welcome their input on our policies and procedures to keep improving our child-safe practices.
