Your new centre’s name

In consultation with local Traditional Owners, Early Learning Victoria Muyan (pronounced moo-yarn) has been chosen as the name of the new early learning and childcare centre at Sunshine Primary School. Muyan is a Woi-wurrung word meaning silver wattle.

During the planning, design, and construction phases, the centre was known by its interim name, Sunshine Primary School Early Learning and Childcare Centre.

About the centre

We have opened a new early learning and childcare centre next to Sunshine Primary School.

The Victorian Government-owned centre offers long day care and Three- and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten programs, with space for up to 130 local children each day.

Our centre features 7 purpose-built rooms designed to cater to specific age groups, so every child has the space to learn, play, and grow.

The centre has:

  • a consulting room for child and family services, such as maternal and child health and allied health
  • a multi-purpose room for community meetings and playgroups.

Programs

  • Long day care at Sunshine: we provide 130 places for children aged between birth and 6 years.
  • Funded kinder: we provide integrated kinder for 3- and 4-year-olds within the long day care setting.
  • There is at least one qualified kindergarten teacher in each room providing a high-quality kinder program to 3- and 4-year-olds.

Ratios

All our centres comply with national standards for educator-to-child ratios:

  • For babies and children under 3 years old, this means 1 educator for every 4 children.
  • For children aged 3 years and above, this means 1 educator for every 11 children.
